Scribes of Ancient EgyptHieroglyphics: sites.google.com
Scribes were people in ancient Egypt were trained to write hieroglyphics (and read) as a job. These scribes were usually men that came from wealthy families, and had to be taught at a special school for scribes. This was very difficult, however, and the scripts were very complicated. They took a long time to write. Hieroglyphics (shown to the left) were often written on sheets of papyrus with pens made out of reeds. |

Answering Questions
How was the Egyptian society organized?
The Egyptian society was organized into social structures of citizens.
There were 3 main levels of society:
- The Top class, which consisted of the royal family: The pharaoh, his wife and children.
- The middle class, which was made up of regular citizens, such as farmers. Siatum is a farmer, which makes him be in middle class.
- The lowest class was made up of slaves captured from war, and prisoners and criminals.
If you could be anyone in ancient Egypt, except the pharaoh, who would you choose to be?
If I could be anyone in ancient Egypt, except for the pharaoh, I would choose to be a scribe. I would choose to be a scribe because they get to learn Egyptian writing(hieroglyphics) and reading, too. They would be in trust of the pharaoh and would be the only one in the city who could read and write. However, this would not be an easy job. being a scribe requires around 5 years of scribe school, and difficult characters to learn to write on papyrus paper.
